Sofia Crespo Structures of Being
JANUARY 27-28, 2024, CASA BATLLÓ, BARCELONA
+ABOUT STRUCTURES OF BEING
Structures of Being is a captivating exploration of the intersection between nature and digital creation. Inspired by the organic shapes and materials of Casa Batlló, Sofía Crespo’s work intertwines Gaudí’s organic architectural language with the digital representation of the evolution of life.
+LIFE'S ORIGIN
First projected onto the façade of Casa Batlló in January 2024, the piece invites the viewer on a journey through time, reimagining the origins of life.
In collaboration with the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, Crespo incorporated data related to ocean currents, merging the digital and natural worlds.
The piece also features music by Robert M. Thomas, whose collaboration with Crespo combined generative algorithms and live performances by local musicians, such as organist Juan de la Rubia and the Cosmos Quartet.
Together, they created a unified narrative that connects us to the present through the eternal evolution of nature. The projection gathered over 95,000 people during its screenings.
+FULL PROJECTION
—A large part of Gaudí’s work remains alive because people constantly interpret it. That’s why we wanted to tell this story.

Sofia Crespo
A new perspective on the evolution of life
Sofia Crespo (born in 1991 in Buenos Aires, Argentina) is an artist whose work sits at the intersection of biology and artificial intelligence.
Her artistic practice explores the ways in which organic life forms use artificial systems to evolve and adapt, questioning the boundaries between the natural and the digital. Her work investigates the connections between AI and human cognition, using neural networks and machine learning to mimic life patterns in nature.
Through her work, she invites us to reconsider our relationship with technology, emphasizing the shared origins of the biological and the digital. Her explorations combine scientific inquiry with artistic expression, creating a poetic dialogue between both.
